Four Reasons to Use Solar Power
01

Renewable Energy Source

Solar power relies on the energy from the sun, which is a virtually infinite and renewable resource. Unlike fossil fuels, which are finite and contribute to environmental degradation, solar energy offers a sustainable solution to meet our energy needs.

02

Environmentally Friendly

Solar power generation produces minimal greenhouse gas emissions, reducing the carbon footprint associated with traditional energy sources such as coal or natural gas. By harnessing solar energy, we can mitigate climate change and protect ecosystems by reducing air and water pollution.

03

Cost Effective

Solar power offers long-term cost savings. Once installed, solar panels require minimal maintenance and have no fuel costs, leading to reduced electricity bills over their lifespan. Incentives such as tax credits and rebates can further offset the upfront expenses.

04

Energy Independence

Solar power enhances energy resilience and mitigates geopolitical risks by reducing reliance on imported fossil fuels, diversifying the energy mix, and empowering individuals and communities to generate their own electricity.

FAQs

Solar energy is generated using the energy from the sun. There are two types of solar panels:

  • Solar thermal panels which are connected to a heating system and transfer heat,
  • Solar photovoltaic (PV) panels which convert light energy into electrical energy and are connected to the electrical system

Our team of solar panel installers specialise in the design and installation of solar photovoltaic panels.

The cost is completely dependent on the property, so please get in touch to discuss what we can do for your property!

A kilowatt (kW) is a unit of power and is equivalent to 1,000 Watts (W). Electrical appliances require power to run at any given time. Below are examples of household appliances and their typical power demand:

  • Digital Radio – 8W
  • Television – 50W
  • Laptop – 65W
  • Fridge Freezer – 30W
  • Kettle – 3,000W
  • Washing Machine – 2,000W
  • Dish Washer – 2,200W
  • Tumble Dryer – 2,500W
  • Incandescent
  • Filament Light Bulb – 60W
  • LED Spotlight – 5W

Generally, a large, south-facing, pitched roof is ideal for solar panels. However, it is possible to put solar panels on different aspects of the roof, for example if you have south-west and south-east facing roofs.

A typical solar panel is usually around 1.8m x 1.1m in size (2m), and we also need to leave a small gap around the outside of the roof for safety. If you think your roof might be suitable, send us a message!

East and west facing roofs are still suitable for a solar panel system. A roof in one of these orientations means that most of the electricity will be generated either earlier or later in the day (depending on the orientation). For example, a system facing east will generate more electricity in the morning than a system facing directly south, but will generate less electricity later in the day. Batteries can be introduced to store the electricity generated in the morning for use later on in the day.

A kilowatt-hour (kWh) is a unit of energy, and is equivalent to 1,000 Watt-hours (Wh). A kWh is based on the power used over one hour. For example, if a 50W television is on for one hour, the television would use 50Wh of energy over the whole hour.

It depends on many things such as your electricity consumption patterns, roof space and orientation, budget, and others. Many people have benefitted from installing a battery as it allows them to use all the electricity they generate instead of buying from the grid. We are more than happy to discuss the installation of a battery alongside solar panels for your property.

Solar photovoltaic panels are used to generate electricity, therefore the solar panels can be used for heating, given the source of heating is powered by electricity. This is common for space heaters,or electric underfloor heating systems. There are also immersion controllers that can connect to the immersion heater in hot water cylinders. The controller communicates with the inverter and uses the excess energy generated by the solar system.

As part of the initial works, we have the roof checked for structural integrity to mount the panels. In the majority of cases, the roof should be fine, but we like to make sure.
